How to Reach Vrindavan

Vrindavan has no airport of its own. The nearest airport is Agra Airport (Kheria), about 65 km away, with limited domestic flights. Most pilgrims and travellers instead fly into Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), roughly 160 km away, which offers far greater domestic and international connectivity, followed by a road or rail journey to Vrindavan.

🚉 By Rail

The nearest major railway station is Mathura Junction, about 12 km from Vrindavan, connected by frequent trains to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Mumbai, and other major cities. A smaller station, Vrindavan Railway Station, exists within the town itself but has very limited train services, so most travellers arrive via Mathura Junction and complete the last stretch by road.

🚗 By Road

Vrindavan is well linked by national highways and the Yamuna Expressway, and is easily reached by private car, taxi, or state and private buses from Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, and Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses and private operators run regular services to Mathura, from where local transport covers the remaining distance into Vrindavan.

Delhi to Vrindavan

Delhi is the most common starting point for travellers and pilgrims from outside Uttar Pradesh, and Vrindavan makes for a comfortable day trip or weekend visit.

🚗 By Road (fastest option)

The quickest way from Delhi is by car or taxi via the Yamuna Expressway, which connects Greater Noida to Agra and passes close to Mathura. The drive takes roughly 3 to 3.5 hours in normal traffic. From the Mathura exit on the expressway, it is a further 15 to 20 minutes by local road into Vrindavan. Private taxis, self-drive cars, and outstation cab services are readily available from Delhi and can be booked for a one-way trip or a same-day return.

🚉 By Train

Numerous trains run daily from Delhi's Nizamuddin, New Delhi, and Old Delhi railway stations to Mathura Junction, with journey times of around 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the train. From Mathura Junction, an auto-rickshaw, taxi, or local bus covers the remaining 12 km to Vrindavan in about 25 to 30 minutes.

UPSRTC and several private bus operators run regular services from Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan (ISBT) and Anand Vihar bus terminals to Mathura and Vrindavan, taking approximately 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic and the route taken.

Mathura to Vrindavan

Distance ≈ 10–12 km · Travel time ≈ 20–30 minutes

Mathura, the birthplace of Shri Krishna, is the closest major town to Vrindavan and the final leg of most journeys, whether arriving by train, bus, or road from elsewhere in India.

🛺 By Auto-Rickshaw & E-Rickshaw

Shared and private auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are the most common way to travel between Mathura and Vrindavan, running frequently from outside Mathura Junction railway station and from the main bus stand. The ride takes around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.

🚕 By Taxi/Cab

Taxis and app-based cabs are readily available in Mathura and offer a faster, more direct route into Vrindavan, particularly convenient for those carrying luggage or travelling with elderly family members.

🚌 By Local Bus

Local and UPSRTC buses ply the Mathura-Vrindavan route through the day, making this the most economical option, though slightly slower than an auto-rickshaw or taxi due to intermediate stops.

Once in Vrindavan, most of the town's major temples — including Shri Bade Dauji Mandir in Anaaj Mandi, near Shri Govind Dev Ji Temple — are within walking distance or a short cycle-rickshaw ride of one another, making it easy to cover several shrines on foot after arrival.
